Run for committee next year and vote on new amendments to the constitution! If you want to run for committee you must be at the AGM, or let us know beforehand and send someone as a proxy.
Roles
President
As president, you are responsible for the strategic direction and overall operations of CSS. You chair meetings, oversee budgeting and event planning, support the committee, and ensure the society delivers value to its members.
Acting as the primary representative of CSS, you will liaise with the university and external partners while maintaining strong engagement within the department. This role offers significant leadership experience and the opportunity to shape the culture and impact of the society.
Vice President
As vice president, you’ll work closely with the president to organise and run the committee smoothly. The main responsibilities of the role are to secure general sponsorship for the society, to build and maintain relationships with alumni and to assist in the planning and delivery of events. This position offers a fantastic opportunity to gain leadership experience and expand your professional network. It’s ideal for someone who enjoys paying attention to finer details, is organised, and isn’t afraid of emails.
Treasurer
Responsible for managing all of CSS’s finances, paying expenses, and overseeing budgets, including financial planning and paying for major events such as GameJam, BrisHack, and the Summer BBQ.
Secretary
Primarily responsible for logistics and admin work such as booking rooms, writing meeting minutes, and corresponding with key contacts within the university. You will work closely with the President and Vice President, and have a big-picture overview of how the society operates.
Social Secretary
Responsible for organising socials every 2ish weeks. Including organising the MVBall, the yearly Scotland Yard Social, the engineering pub socials and the CS family scheme. Important part is building connections with other social secs to organise collabs with other societies.
Press Officer
Responsible for keeping the social media (mainly Instagram sometimes TIk Tok) up to date, responding to DMs and making up graphics for events like socials, BrisHack & GameJam. Quite laid back, ideal for anyone interested in graphic design!
BrisHack Officer
Responsible for the planning of BrisHack for your year of committee. One 24 hour event typically taking place in the first half of the second term. You will have a counterpart in BEEES and you will be working alongside them to make the event happen.
General Officer
Responsible for supporting those who may have a little too much on their plate through taking on a variety of roles within the society. This role is centred on being a reliable supporter, ensuring that other committee members can perform to the best of their ability, while also taking initiative whenever needed.
EDI Officer
As an EDI officer, you help ensure that events are inclusive and promote diversity. Work can be done alongside the social secretary, where you help advise them in what events would allow for all people from different backgrounds to be included. Workshops and talks can also be done to help promote diversity.
Talks Officer
Responsible for organising company and academic talks throughout the year. This includes reaching out to speakers, managing communication, confirming logistics, and hosting events. You’ll build relationships with industry professionals, coordinate with other committee members for promotion and room bookings, and ensure talks are relevant and engaging for students.
Technical Events Officer
As technical events officer, you will work alongside the Talks Officer to organise a range of computer-science related events throughout the year. This can include talks, workshops, presentations, competitions, and study sessions. This involves company outreach, room bookings, and catering. Last year’s technical events included a lightning talks series, a game jam, and a hackathon.
Webmaster
Update website, Discord, Whatsapp with events and job posting from sponsors. Work with BrisHack officer to update BrisHack website. Responsible for email administration.
Outreach Officer
As Outreach Officer, you work alongside the EDI Officer to engage new and underrepresented communities. You build connections with schools, societies, and external groups, helping to promote accessibility and inclusion within CSS. This role focuses on widening participation and ensuring our society reaches beyond its existing membership.
